PRO 7 director calls on LGUs to collaborate with police in fight vs illegal drugs

THE Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO 7) launched 492 anti-criminality operations that resulted in the arrest of 622 drug personalities between December 19, 2022 and January 20, 2023.

During this period, police seized 7,126.76 grams of shabu worth P48,461,968 and 404.60 grams of marijuana worth P48,522.

"Our anti-illegal drugs campaign adopts a whole-of-government approach, which would only be effective if we are able to carry out plans like local anti-drug plan of action and barangay anti-drug plan of action down at the grassroots. It is crucial that our LGUs (local government units) collaborate with us and work on a common goal of an action-based, anti-drug plan,” said PRO 7 Director Brigadier General Jerry Bearis.

Bearis said one of their strategies is to focus on drug rehabilitation and the reintegration of drug dependents to society.

The war against illegal drugs must be comprehensive, analytical, community-based and sensitive to human rights, he said.

He said the PRO 7 strategy follows the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s Buhay ay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan Program and the peace and security framework MKK=K, or Malasakit, Kaayusan, Kapayapaan and Kaunlaran, of Philippine National Police Chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr.

Bearis said the war against illegal drugs is everyone’s concern.

“The time has come that we decide to work together and see the big picture. Let us put our actions into one for a drug-free Central Visayas community working in partnership with a responsive community for a safer place to live, work and do business," he said.

He said he will continue to implement programs that have proven to be effective, especially the simultaneous anti-criminality and law enforcement operations of all police units in Central Visayas. (AYB,PJB)
