"Prometheus" sequel confirmed

3 Aug – Considering the enormous hype and critical reception that Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" received when it was released in June this year, it is no surprise that 20th Century Fox has commissioned for a sequel, which will be out in 2014 or 2015, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Director Ridley Scott has also been confirmed to return for the sequel, as well as stars Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender. Those who have watched the film will know why, and here is what Fox production president Emma Watts had to say about the follow-up and their decision on the release date.

"Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it."

However, while the core team for "Prometheus" may be returning, its writer, Damon Lindelof, may not. The studio is currently in talks with new writers to draft the sequel as Lindelof may not be available to work on the sequel due to his involvement with "The Amazing Spider-Man 2".

"Prometheus" marked the fifth entry in the "Alien" franchise, with story that precedes the story of "Alien" but is not directly connected to that franchise. Set in the late 21st century, the story centres on the crew of the spaceship Prometheus as they follow a star map discovered among the remnants of several ancient Earth cultures. Seeking to discover the origins of humanity in that distant world they are led to, they get more than they bargained for when they stumble upon an advanced civilization and a threat that could cause the extinction of the human race.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the science fiction film was released on 7 June 2012 in both Malaysia and Singapore's cinemas and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Logan Marshall-Green, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall.
