I.Protect: UFO vs UFO

·1 min read

UFO Magazine Inc. owns the “UFO” trademark registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office for “Entertainment in the nature of a television series and motion picture film series” and “Entertainment services, namely multimedia publishing of books, magazines, and electronic publications which deal with unidentified flying objects and related phenomena.” The “UFO” trademark was registered in 2007 and renewed in 2017.

UFO Magazine Inc. filed a trademark infringement suit against Showtime Networks as the latter produced a docuseries entitled “UFO” which investigates the possibility of aliens from outer space. The lawsuit claims that the “UFO” docuseries ruins the magazine’s plan to make a movie or a TV series entitled “UFO.” The magazine is seeking triple the profits that Showtime has realized from the “UFO” docuseries which started streaming in August last year.
