Purefoods beat Meralco to take PBA 3x3 Leg 4 title

PUREFOODS nipped Meralco, 21-16, to capture the fourth leg crown of the PBA 3x3 Lakas ng Tatlo tournament on Sunday night, December 5, 2021 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Jun Bonsubre converted an open shot from beyond the arc with 1:27 left in the match to give the Tender Juicy Giants the victory and the P100,000 cash prize that came with it.

Crafty guard Pao Javelona led Purefoods with 10 points, his basket giving them a 13-8 lead with five minutes left in the match. However, the Bolts came roaring back and tied the match at 13-all. Javelona, though, proved resilient as he hit a two-pointer and a layup, while Bonsubre added another basket to give Purefoods a 19-15 lead with a little over two minutes remaining in the game.

Joseph Eriobu had five points while Bonsubre and Jed Mendoza added three markers each.

Purefoods had an impressive run through the playoffs as they toppled Pioneer, 20-15, in the quarterfinals and then, beat TNT, 21-11, in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, TNT won the third-place trophy as they edged Platinum, 21-20. Samboy de Leon canned the game-winning bucket that completed the Tropang Giga’s comeback from a 10-16 deficit.
