PUV permits extended to ferry supporters

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas (LTFRB 7) has extended the validity of special permits issued for all public utility vehicles (PUVs) in Cebu.

LTFRB 7 Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. said this on Friday, April 22, 2022, after seeing a rising demand for PUVs hired, especially by candidates, in their campaign rallies.

“In the exigency of service, all special permits are extended up to 30 April 2021,” Montealto said in his letter dated April 21.

He, however, said the special permits will be cancelled if the concerned PUV operator has pending violations.

“All Special Permits are deemed cancelled if the operator has an unsettled pending violation,” Montealto said in his letter.

Montealto said the QR codes installed in PUVs for contact tracing will also be automatically renewed.

Montealto clarified that those PUVs with existing contracts under the LTFRB 7’s Libreng Sakay program are exempt from the special permits.

The LTFRB 7 directive was addressed to PUV operators in the entire Cebu including the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu, the Philippine National Police, Highway Patrol Group and other law enforcers. (TPT)
