PUVs that want to enter SRP on Sinulog day can get special permit from LTFRB 7

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Central Visayas (LTFRB 7) is now accepting applications for special permits that will allow public utility vehicles (PUVs) to enter the South Road Properties (SRP) on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

The Sinulog Grand Parade and Ritual Showdown will be held there that day.

LTFRB 7 Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. said buses that the Cebu City Government will deploy to carry passengers to the venue and tourist transport buses that will carry contingents won’t need one as these won’t charge fares.

He said the same goes for buses of MyBus as the SRP is part of its existing route.

MyBus, which is operated by Metro Rapid Transit Services Incorporated, a consortium of Jam Liner Incorporated and Premier Southern Corporation, a subsidiary of SM Prime Holdings Incorporated, travels on the Cebu South Coastal Road at the SRP on its way to Talisay City and back.

However, modern PUVs that ply the Plaza Independencia to SM Seaside City route and vice versa will need a special permit.

Montealto said they will only allow a maximum of 25 percent of the transport cooperatives’ units to get a special permit so there will be enough units to cater to passengers in areas covered by their franchise.

He also said 100 Angkas riders will be available to take passengers to the venue.

Meanwhile, the LTFRB 7 director said his office and the Cebu City Transportation Office have been coordinating to make sure members of the public won’t have any problem with transportation on Sunday.

He assured that there will be enough PUVs plying the streets that day. (PAC, PJB)
