QC Court accepts Ampatuan Jr.’s late filing in Maguindanao massacre case

MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 221 has accepted Datu Andal ‘Unsay’ Ampatuan Jr.’s memorandum filed months after the trial has ended for the brutal Maguindanao massacre.

In a two-page order, Presiding Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes said she will admit the memorandum filed by Ampatuan, the principal suspect in the gruesome massacre in November 2009 that killed 58 individuals including journalists.

Prosecutors, however, opposed the motion saying it was “clearly filed out of time.”

They also accused the filing as delaying tactic as the court’s decision on the case is much expected by December 20.

But the Court said the Department of Justice (DOJ) may still reply on the motion within five days after receiving a copy of the document.
