Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo described her acting debut alongside Kim Rodriguez and Jeric Gonzales in GMA-7’s public affairs program Wish Ko Lang as her “baptism of fire.”

The beauty queen is cast as Rita, a young woman whose mother has been injured in an accident. Rita’s wealthy closest friend, Mariel, portrayed by Kim, then offers to pay for the hospital fees.

Their friendship suffers when they fall in love with the same man, Dennis, portrayed by Jeric. Things take a turn for the worse when Mariel begs for Dennis as payment for Rita's debt.

In an interview with online news site PEP, Rabiya recalled a confrontation scene saying "Grabe talaga iyong sampalan ang bugbugan namin do'n!"

(The slapping and fighting were intense.)

Rabiya said she prepared herself “psychologically and emotionally” for the role.

The beauty queen said that because they never faked their slaps, her reaction was genuine and authentic.

Rabiya said she could empathize with Rita like she is “happy-go-lucky” with a lot of ambitions in life. “She was just caught in a situation kung saan (where) she has to choose between the love of her life or iyong friendship niya (her friendship),” Rabiya added.

Rabiya, however, has never had to face the love-of-her-life dilemma in real life.

As she jokes, "So far naman, lucky ako, ako lang naman. (So far, I’ve been lucky.) There hasn't been any third party so far, lucky ako! (I’m lucky)"

Rabiya’s Wish Ko Lang! Episode will air this Saturday (November 27).
