CEBUANA legend in drama and radio broadcasting Susan Perez Aliño died on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021. She was 74.

Aliño served in radio broadcasting station dyHP for years, where she became most famous for the phrase “Handumanan sa Usa ka Awit” which played on air in the ‘70s, ‘80s and until the mid ‘90s.

She was also known as disc jockey “Sexy Susan” in former dyXL FM.

From dyHP, she moved to dySS in 1997 where she served as the station manager until she died.

According to Superbalita Cebu columnist and dySS program director and chief operations Bobby Nalzaro, while she was managing the station, she also ran RGMA 7 TV until she retired at 60.

Aliño was also one of the brains behind GMA 7’s “Balitang Bisdak” when it was launched in 1999.

Nalzaro said when Aliño was still working for the Radio Mindanao Network, RGMA Manila’s Mike Enriquez offered her to be the station manager of dySS.

“Susan was the one who hired me as her program manager and anchor for Bombo,” Nalzaro said.

Under Aliño’s leadership, several GMA radio stations were opened across the country, Nalzaro added.

“She was a nice boss, although she was also a bit strict. She treated us as her children,” Nalzaro said.

The family has yet to issue a statement regarding her death but the funeral will be kept private due to Covid-19 restrictions. (REV / CCP)
