Rama’s new EO: Non-obligatory face mask-wearing only until December 31

A TRIAL period has been set for the non-obligatory wearing of face masks in Cebu City together with additional provisions after Mayor Michael Rama issued another executive order (EO) Monday, September 5, 2022.

During the City Hall’s regular flag raising ceremony, Rama signed EO 6 that provided supplements to the provisions of EO 5, which declared the use of face masks within the territorial jurisdiction of Cebu City as non-obligatory but a measure of individual self-preservation and protection.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government recently asked Rama to temporarily suspend the implementation of EO 5, which was signed last August 30 but the mayor insisted that the order will stay.

Under EO 6, the non-obligatory of face mask will be implemented from September 1 to December 31, 2022. The same period is also referred to as the “trial and observation period.”

In case of a surge of Covid-19 cases, the non-obligatory wearing of face masks will be automatically lifted and the use of face masks will be mandatory for all persons. (IRT)
