Rama eyes more discount cards, fuel depot to combat high fuel prices

AS FUEL prices continue to rise, the Cebu City government plans to roll out more discount cards and pursue the creation of a fuel depot in the city.

During MyTV Cebu's Openline Forum on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, Mayor Michael Rama said that he will welcome any program that can mitigate the effects of the subsequent increase in fuel products.

Rama added that he will sit down with fuel companies to check the possibility of increasing the discounts that can be given to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.

In April, the city government partnered with Phoenix fuel company to launch the “Gasolina Mo, Sagot Ko" project, allowing PUV drivers to avail of discounts of at least P2 per liter depending on the weekly prices of oil products.

Since January this year, the price of diesel has increased by P36.85, gasoline by P26.55, and kerosene was up by P33.10.

Aside from discount cards, Rama also mulls the possibility of opening a fuel depot in the South Road Properties (SRP) wherein motorists can get cheaper fuel products.

After the onslaught of Typhoon Odette (Rai) in December 2021, the city government was able to open a fuel depot in SRP to alleviate the fuel demand.
