Rama to go on leave

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama will take a week of “respite” starting Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, as he takes his postponed vacation in an undisclosed location in the country with his family.

Rama said in a press conference Monday, Jan. 23 that his family vacation was supposed to have taken place in the last week of December last year, but it was canceled due to the City Government’s preparations for the Sinulog Festival.

Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia will serve as acting mayor in Rama’s absence.

Rama will be officially on leave for four days starting Tuesday. He will be back in the city on Sunday, Jan. 29.

The mayor said he will not be leaving the country, but he and his family will only stay on “another island,” which he did not disclose for security reasons.

“That will bring a notion to everybody, ‘Do not look for your mayor.’ But since I will [still] be in the Philippines, as long as the signal is not cut, I will still be connected,” said Rama.

The mayor added that should any local or national concerns need his attention, his line will still be available.

Rama further said that City Administrator Suzanne Ardosa, Rama’s secretary Collin Rosell and Rama’s special assistant for fiscal matters Jerone Castillo will also help Garcia in making sure that the day-to-day services in the City Hall will not be hampered.
