Rama names Arce as CDRRMO, Probe chief; ex-dad to serve as mayor’s ‘mouthpiece’

CEBU City Market Administrator Raquel Bohol-Arce will now be wearing three hats once Mayor-elect Michael Rama begins his new term.

This after Rama appointed Arce as the head of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) and overseer of the Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification and Enhancement (Probe) Team starting July 1, 2022.

Rama told reporters that Arce will now manage CCDRRMO’s operations while lawyer and former city councilor Gerardo Carillo will focus on his work as chairman of the CCDRRM Council in the mayor’s behalf.

Arce told SunStar Cebu she is grateful that Rama had tasked her to lead CCDRRMO and Probe.

Despite handling three offices, Arce said it’s nothing new since aside from being market administrator, she is also currently CCDRRMO’s assistant chief.

She also previously headed Probe during the term of the late mayor Edgardo Labella.

“I am very happy since it is a new challenge because we are extending services through our office especially during disasters. I can play as a hero unlike my role in Probe that I am seen as a villain,” Arce said in a mixture of Cebuano and English.

Now that she will be handling three offices, Arce said she will do her best to effectively manage them for the meantime.

Arce added that her role as market administrator will just be temporary until Rama names her successor.

The new disaster head added that she will meet with CCDRRMO personnel regarding any improvements that can be made under her administration including the construction of an office for CCDRRMO and unifying their communication system.

Press secretary

Aside from Arce, Rama also announced that he will issue an executive order that would appoint former city councilor Erik Espina as his “press secretary.”

Rama said Espina’s role will be similar to Presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar.
