The Gilas Pilipinas men’s national basketball team received some good news as reigning NCAA Most Valuable Player Rhenz Abando was given clearance by FIBA to suit up for the team, replacing injured wingman Dwight Ramos.

The green light was given on Monday evening during the technical committee meeting.

This development means the Gilas will have a 12-man roster when they tangle with Lebanon on Wednesday. Abando will join a talented backcourt that has veteran Kiefer Ravena, up-and-coming guards SJ Belanguel, and RJ Abarrientos, as well as Bobby Ray Parks and youngster LeBron Lopez.

The frontcourt consists of Cebuano Carl Tamayo, Will Navarro, Geo Chiu, Poy Erram and Kevin Quiambao.

The Gilas are looking to finish in the top two in Group D to earn a ticket to the quarterfinals. After Lebanon, they will take on India on Friday and finish their group stage assignments with a match against New Zealand on Sunday.
