THE Regional Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (RIATF MEID) 7 has recommended to the Cebu City government to cancel or stop all physical and actual performance-based Sinulog Festival activities this year amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a resolution adopted by the RIATF MEID during the virtual meeting on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, the body consider that all physical and actual performance-based Sinulog Festival activities such as the Ritual Dance Showdown and Street Dance Competition, among others, pose threat to the participating contingents and the possible crowd that it might draw which may increase the risk of SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing Covid-19, transmission.
The RIATF 7 also said even with limiting the number of performers in each contingent or holding the said activities through a "bubble" concept or even pre-recording the videos of the performances to their respective places, it can still pose a risk of Covid-19 infection as it still requires the participants to gather and interact during the rehearsals and actual performance for the video recordings.
The RIATF 7 said this will still likely draw crowds that may be difficult to control due to limited security personnel.(WBS)
