Rice Farming

RIZAL PROVINCE, Philippines - Hundreds of rice farmers from various parts of the province have been receiving technical knowledge on all aspects of rice farming every year as part of the provincial government's assistance for the agriculture sector.

This came as Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) head, Dr. Reynaldo Bonita handed out certificates of completion to the participants of the "Farmers Field School" (FFS) program during its graduation ceremony yesterday.

Under the FFS program, farmer participants which are recommended by the municipal agricultural office of the localities are trained for four months or at least 16 weeks on all the aspects of rice farming from pre-planting to harvesting of rice crops.

Dr. Luminada Olvida, Senior Agriculturist of the PAO, said the graduation of rice farmers who took part in the FFS program is part of the PAO's birthday gift for Governor Casimiro "Junjun" Ynares III who will turn 39 on March 4.

He said trainers who are employees of the PAO are all experts in rice production as they have all went through the trainings given by the national government.
