MANILA, Philippines - Don't look now but if Annabelle Rama is to be believed, his son and prized ward Richard Gutierrez might be flying the GMA-7 coop to be a freelance artist "soon."
Rama made the disclosure via Twitter Thursday, posting, "Ang sarap ng gising ko! I'm in cloud 9, can't believe about the good news of 2013!"
"Little birdie told me last night that Richard will be a freelancer soon to make movies with other studio ... Yeahhhhhhh.....I've been longing for this day. Thank u Sto Niño for answered prayers."
abs-cbnnews.com also reported on the matter on Thursday, quoting the same tweets.
Though it is hardly the official statement everyone is expecting, especially considering GMA's silence about the matter, at least as of this writing, not a few wags deem it more than enough.
Just recently, Gutierrez's sweetheart Sarah Lahbati - also a GMA contract artist - also revealed via Twitter her seeming displeasure over some contractual snags with her home network.
She went on to tweet her decision to sign up with Rama's Royal Artist Management to co-manage her career as, she said, "I needed someone to protect & help my well being in this cut throat industry."
Lahbati will also be flying home to her native Switzerland for the time being.
"This does not mean that I will be gone from the industry and craft that I love... Just a breather from all the chaos..." she posted.
Pundits who have decided to put two and two together, assumed that Rama's announcement relating to her son being a freelancer soon is somehow related to Lahbati's announcement.
Gutierrez began his acting career as a child. As a teen he appeared on the GMA-7 show "Click," cementing his status as matinee idol.
His role in the hit fantasy series "Mulawin" made him a big star. Since then he has played lead roles in other GMA-7 shows including "Sugo," "Codename: Asero," "Zorro," "Lupin," and "Captain Barbell."
Since last year, there have been reports that Gutierrez might do a film under Star Cinema. He last worked for Star Cinema alongside KC Concepcion in 2008 in the movie "For the First Time."
In 2012 Gutierrez hosted "Pinoy Adventures" and "Extra Challenge (Extreme)" both on GMA.
Lahbati, on the other hand, gained media attention as a finalist on the 5th season of "StarStruck." She was Gutierrez's leading lady in the GMA primetime series "Makapiling Kang Muli," which aired last year.
