MANILA, Philippines-Actor Richard Yap, who rose to fame as Sir Chief in the current hit series "Be Careful With My Heart," has just signed a two-year exclusive contract with ABS-CBN.
In a report on "TV Patrol," Richard was shown inking the agreement with Kapamilya executives. The actor is soon set to star in a movie tentatively titled "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw" as well as record his debut album.
Yet while considered a heartthrob by many, Richard downplayed the adulation he has been getting from the public.
"I wouldn't call my self a heartthrob...just an ordinary handsome guy," he joked.
Prior to going into acting full time, Richard was a businessman. Already "retired," the actor now concentrates on the series that cemented his status as certified, if unlikely, star.
Does Melody, his wife of 19 years, get jealous over the attention he gets from female fans?
"She's always been very supportive," was all that Richard said.
The 45-year-old actor burst out laughing when asked if he is willing to accept sexy roles.
"I think that would ba a part of a destruction of my career. Its too late for me!"
On "Be Careful With My Heart," Sir Chief is a moneyed widower who threatens to ruin the dreams of simple girl Maya (played by Jodi Sta. Maria), who was "forced" to temporarily become his children's nanny. In the course of the story, Maya finds herself falling in love with her employer which brings in a whole new set of twists and turns in the story.
"Be Careful With My Heart" airs on ABS-CBN at around 10:30 a.m. from Monday to Friday. It also stars Mutya Orquia, Janelle Salvador, Jerome Ponce, Aiza Seguerra, JM Ibanez, Divina Valencia and Gloria Sevilla.
Prior to "Be Careful With My Heart," Richard Yap played Papa Chen on "My Binondo Girl."
