Rochester Firefighters Share Cooking-Safety Tips for Thanksgiving

Oil and water don’t mix – but especially in a cooking-fire situation, firefighters in Rochester, Minnesota, dramatically demonstrated as they reminded Thanksgiving cooks to keep it safe.

“There are three times as many cooking fires on Thanksgiving then on any other normal day,” the Rochester Fire Department said, as it released video showing the disastrous results of pouring water on an oil fire. In the event of an oil fire, they said, “turn off the burner and use the lid to cover the flames, NEVER put water on a cooking oil fire.” Credit: Rochester Fire Department via Storyful
