Cebuano Roger Pogoy is well aware of just how tough the San Miguel Beermen are.
Rulers of five of the last six Philippine Cup tournaments, Pogoy said that he and the rest of his teammates at the TNT Tropang Giga need to bring their A-game in every match against the Beermen.
And bring it, the Talisay City native did, as he scored 23 points and played brilliant defense against San Miguel’s Marcio Lassiter on the game’s final play to allow the Tropang Giga to come away with an 89-88 win in Game One of the best-of-seven semifinal series.
The versatile wingman admitted that tired legs might have played a part in their collapse down the stretch. But fortunately, they were able to hang on for the win against their star-studded opponents.
“The fatigue factor was there but I give credit to the team since we didn’t let go, especially on the defensive end of the floor,” said Pogoy, who also had three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
“We need to bring our A-game, our best game in order to win against San Miguel,” the former University of Cebu Baby Webmaster star relayed. (JNP)
