TNT’s Cebuano stalwart Roger Ray Pogoy has finished in the top five of the stats race in the recently concluded PBA Philippine Cup after a stellar performance in the five-game finals.

With fellow stars Bobby Ray Parks and Jayson Castro sitting on the sidelines due to injuries, the University of Cebu high school product took matter into his own hands and averaged 26 points per game in the finals loss to Barangay Ginebra. For the season, the pride of Talisay City normed 19.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

Pogoy ended up with 35.64 statistical points (SP), which was good for fifth place in the race for the Best Player of the Conference award and the “Special Five” citation, which is a citation similar to the usual Mythical Five award.

Parks emerged as the statistics race winner with 38.2 followed by Phoenix’s Calvin Abueva who had 37.1. Terra Firma’s CJ Perez landed in third with 35.7 while Phoenix’s Matthew Wright was in fourth with 35.65.

Other big gainers in the title playoff were Ginebra’s Stanley Pringle (34.8) and Japeth Aguilar (32.9). Pringle narrowly missed making the Top Five while Japeth Aguilar rallied from way out to finish at eighth. Scottie Thompson (32.8) was the third Ginebra player to make the Top 10 at No. 9.

The top rookies were TerraFirma’s Roosevelt Adams (20.3), Meralco’s Aaron Black (17.3), Alaska’s Barkley Ebona (16.3), Magnolia’s Aris Dionisio (15.9) and Ginebra’s Arvin Tolentino (15.5).

The awards will be given in a special awards night next month. (JNP)
