MANILA, Philippines --- There is a new man leading the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas has named Chief Supt. Carlito Romero as the new Officer-in-Charge of the BFP, replacing Chief Supt. Ruben Bearis who only had a three-month stint.
Bearis was named OIC in October 2012 following the early retirement of former Fire Director Rolando Bandilla.
However, in Department Order 2013-27 dated Jan. 11, Roxas authorized Romero to act on the personal actions, financial, logistical transactions, and operational matters that are vested on the Chief BFP.
Romero rose from the ranks of the bureau and has been in the government service for 34 years.
Roxas' sudden decision to change the BFP head apparently was made just last week during the traditional New Year's call in Camp Crame.
All heads and ranking officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) gathered together that day to pay a yearly New Year's call to the DILG chief.
Unfortunately for Bearis, he was unable to satisfy Roxas when he was asked a question regarding the bureau.
