MINIMUM wage earners in Central Visayas could expect an P18 wage increase by January of next year after the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) approved the said adjustment on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019.
Philip Tan, RTWPB business sector representative, confirmed this, saying among their major considerations include the poverty incidence and the geography.
“Ang atong wage increase nga P18 is sa Metro Cebu, there will be two tier. One is for more than ten employees, they will get an adjustment of P18.
Those that are employing nine or less will have a P10 increase,” he said.
The new rate for the micro business with ten employees will now be P404 while for the companies with less than 10 employees would now be P396.
Other areas outside Metro Cebu, depending on their current rates, will also have an P18 increase.
House helpers in the region are also set to receive a new rate of around P4,500 to P5,000.
However, Tan said, this development will still have to undergo the National Wages Productivity Commission for review and this have to be endorsed by Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.
After its signed by Bello, it shall be brought back to the RTWPB for publication. It shall take effect 15 days after its publication.(SunStar Cebu)
