Ryan Gosling believes he's achieved his dream of playing a character people "dressed up as for Halloween".
The actor explained why he's decided to take a break from acting to concentrate on directing for now.
Ryan feels he's finally been accepted as an icon amongst a male audience, as well as the female.
"My dream was to make a character people dressed up as for Halloween. As a kid everyone would dress up as a Johnny Depp character," Ryan joked to UK Cosmopolitan magazine. "When I did Drive I was hoping for the same. Then last Halloween people sent me pictures of Drive characters everywhere."
The star is widely regarded as a sex symbol by fans all over the world. He claims his popularity can be put down to the internet.
"Do you remember when Fabio [an American romance-novel cover model] was on a roller coaster and he got hit in the face by a pigeon? It's like I'm the pigeon and the internet is Fabio and it just happened," he laughed. "It's not really me."
Ryan is directing How to Catch a Monster starring Christina Hendricks. He says the project is the most revealing and personal thing he's done in his career so far.
"Sure [I feel vulnerable directing for the first time] - there's nowhere to hide!" he joked. "I was nervous until I had my cast, but now I do I'm excited. You can't really go wrong; they're the best."© Cover Media
