All Saints’ Day in Lapu-Lapu City ‘peaceful’

THE commemoration of All Saint's Day in Lapu-Lapu City on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, was peaceful.

According to Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan, the crowd was smaller across all cemeteries in the city.

In an interview with SunStar Cebu on Tuesday, Chan said the public took advantage of the long weekend and visited their departed loved ones earlier.

"Murag nabahin ang adlaw so naay uban nga kani-adto pang other day, gahapon, ug karon. So medyo luag ang atoang menteryo," he said.

(Some went the other day, others yesterday and some today. So our cemeteries aren’t very crowded.)

The public will have until midnight to stay in the cemeteries, he said.

During his inspection of different cemeteries, the mayor observed that the public could freely enter and exit without any traffic build-up.

He said members of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office and auxiliary personnel tightly monitor security to prevent the entry of contraband like bladed weapons, liquor and sound systems.

The mayor admitted that some insisted on bringing in knives to clean tombstones but they were told they could not bring the items inside.

Chan said the number of police and medical personnel who were deployed across the four cemeteries in the mainland and the one in Olanggo Island was sufficient. (IRT)
