Saldana's marriage is 'equal'

Zoe Saldana reportedly always felt “underestimated” by the men she dated.

The 35-year-old actress surprised many by marrying artist, and her long-time friend, Marco Perego in secret in June 2013. They had only been dating a few months, but Zoe apparently realised the relationship was right because it felt so different to what she’d experienced before.

“Zoe felt other guys she dated treated her like a trophy and underestimated her,” a friend told Us Weekly magazine. “But Marco treats her as an equal.”

The brunette beauty was previously engaged to Keith Britton, who she was with for 11 years. She also enjoyed an on/off relationship with Bradley Cooper, who she met while they were shooting movie The Words in 2011.

Another reason the actress is said to value her romance with Marco is because she had to do the running.

“She says it was a challenge to win him over!” the insider laughed.

Zoe prefers to keep her relationship with Marco out of the limelight and has rarely discussed him in public, except to confirm they tied the knot in England and she is very happy.

She will talk more generally about romance though, previously admitting she doesn’t understand people who decided they need time out from relationships when one breaks down.

"I'm not one of these people who's going, 'Oh, because I was with someone for so long I need to take a break,'" she explained. "What if love is just around the corner?"
