Saludar survives early KO, wins ABF belt

FORMER world champion Vic Saludar overcame adversity and knocked out Mike Kinaadman in the sixth round to win the vacant Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) minimumweight belt in the main event of Brawl in Naga--“Band of Brothers” at the Enan Chiong Activity Center in the City of Naga, Cebu. Saludar was shocked in the opening round after being dropped by Kinaadman. He, however, collected his composure and landed a vicious shot to the body to knock out Kinaadman in the 2:04 mark of the sixth round.

It was Saludar and Kinaadman’s third fight, wherein in the former won all three bouts. Saludar improved to 20-4 with 11 knockouts, while Kinaadman dropped to 7-13-2 with five knockouts. Saludar’s two younger brothers, however, were unfortunate and lost in the undercard. Jakeson Saludar (4-1, 4 KOs) suffered his first career defeat after a fifth-round technical knockout by Jake Amparo (6-2-1,1 KO), while Van June Saludar (5-3-2, 3 KOs) lost to Justine Darap (9-1, 5 KOs) by majority decision (56-58, 56-58, 57-57).
