TALISAY City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. has tapped the help of celebrities and local personalities in order to convince his constituents to avail themselves of free Covid-19 vaccinations.

In his official Facebook page, Gullas has tapped celebrities like Aiko Melendez, actor and entrepreneur Paul Jake Castillo and his wife, Kaye Abad-Castillo; Ellen Adarna, Bayani Agbayani, Eric Fructuoso, Jay Manalo, Jason Abalos and GMA 7 anchor Arnold Clavio to post video messages and convince his constituents to get themselves vaccinated.

Even local personalities like Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) star RR Pogoy, Ms. Universe 2019 titleholder Gazini Ganados, and triathlon star Kim Remolino also shared video messages on Gullas’s Facebook page as a way to convince others to get vaccinated.

Pogoy, Ganados and Remolino are from Talisay City.

Gullas told SunStar Cebu that his City will try anything to convince their constituents to get vaccinated.

“If it means trying to get a hold of some of my friends to do so, then I will,” Gullas told SunStar Cebu.

He lamented that fake news about the Covid-19 vaccine is contributing to the reason why some people in his his City don’t want to get vaccinated.

Gullas said when they were not accepting walk-ins before, an average of 3,000 individuals per day would get vaccinated at their vaccination sites.

Now that they are accepting walk-ins and now have four vaccination centers, at least 500 individuals per day would get vaccinated, Gullas added.

Aside from the needed “Star Power,” Gullas said they are also bringing their vaccination rollout to the barangays, especially for bedridden individuals who can’t afford to visit their vaccination centers.

As of August 27, 2021, a total of 81,849 individuals from Talisay City have been inoculated with Covid-19 vaccines. (JKV)
