The San Miguel Beermen won their fourth game in a row after outgunning the Blackwater Elite, 90-88, in overtime in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup on Monday, November 3, at the AUF Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Pampanga.

The win was crucial for the five-time defending champions as it put their (win-loss) record at 5-2 and on track for a quarterfinal bid. Big man Moala Tautuaa was pivotal in San Miguel’s win as he had a double-double performance of 26 points and 14 rebounds.

However, it was Chris Ross that pushed the Beermen over the finish line as it was his layup with 1:14 to go in the extra session that got his team the lead, 89-88. Blackwater had several chances at regaining the lead including a wide-open midrange jumper by Don Trollano. However, his shot rattled in and out.

San Miguel wingman Von Pessumal grabbed the rebound, was fouled and split his charities for a 90-88 advantage with just four ticks left on the clock. Blackwater had one last shot at stealing the win but Mike Tolomia’s heave from halfcourt bounced off the rim as time expired.

Marcio Lassiter had 12 points while Alex Cabagnot nearly had a triple-double with 11 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Pessumal added 10 while Arwind Santos finished with nine points and 13 boards. Ross contributed across the board with eight points, eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks.

Blackwater was led by the 20 points of Ed Daquioag. However, it was all for naught as the Elite lost their third game in a row and dropped to 2-4. (JNP)
