The San Miguel Beermen grabbed a 2-1 series lead in the PBA Philippine Cup finals after they slipped past the TNT Tropang Giga, 108-100, in overtime on Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Robbie Herndon stepped up in overtime, starting it with five quick points to give the Beermen the spark it needed to pull off the win against TNT. He punctuated his mini run with a triple for a 99-94 lead that eventually pushed San Miguel over the top.

It was sweet redemption for Herndon who committed a delay of game violation with 11.7 seconds remaining in overtime that resulted in a technical foul. TNT wingman Roger Pogoy sank the technical free-throw to tie the match and eventually send it to overtime.

Cebuano giant June Mar Fajardo had a monster double-double of 27 points and 27 rebounds to lead the way for the Beermen, who will look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead in Game Four on Sunday.

“I’m so happy for them dahil gusto nilang Manalo. I would like to congratulate not only June Mar, that’s given na, but Robbie Herdon for being patient. Nagkaroon ng opportunity and he was the big revelation para sa team,” said San Miguel head coach Leo Austria. “

Jericho Cruz also scored numerous crucial baskets in overtime to end up with 18 points while Marcio Lassiter and Vic Manuel had 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Pogoy had another brilliant offensive outing with 25 points including four triples, while Mikey Williams pitched in 17 points.
