San Miguel Pursues Airport, Road Projects to Ease Manila Traffic

San Miguel Corp. is moving ahead with the construction of a new airport in Bulacan province north of the Philippine capital and an expressway that would decongest Metro Manila.

The airport will be operational in 2025, while a 19.4-kilometer elevated expressway along the banks of the Pasig River can be completed by 2023, the nation’s largest company said in a statement Thursday.

San Miguel on Thursday opened its 18-kilometer elevated highway that would link two expressways north and south of Metro Manila, and which would ease traffic on the capital’s main thoroughfare by 50%, President Ramon Ang said.

Venezuela's chief prosecutor Tarek Saab on Thursday told the country's National Assembly that some 22,700 detainees were currently in pre-trial detention centers, and that the centers should provide frequent medical attention.

    Jailed Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny has been moved to an undisclosed detention centre outside Moscow that may be a prison camp, his lawyer and a member of a rights organisation said on Thursday. Navalny, a prominent critic of President Vladimir Putin, was jailed this month over alleged parole violations related to an embezzlement case he said was trumped up for political reasons, something the authorities deny. He is due to spend a little over 2-1/2 years behind bars, according to his lawyers, one of whom, Vadim Kobzev said on Twitter he had been moved from his Moscow jail.
