A 62-year-old sari-sari store owner was stabbed by her own customer in Sitio Luym, Barangay West Poblacion, City of Naga in southern Cebu on Sunday evening, June 19, 2022.

The victim, identified as Marcela Bacla-an Burdado, was tending to her store when she was stabbed by her customer with a sharpened iron bar on her right abdomen and left lower leg.

The suspect fled onboard a motorcycle without being identified as he was wearing a helmet.

Lt. Col. Junnel Caadlawon, officer-in-charge of the Naga Police Station, said that according to Burdado’s husband, she was cultivating her garden in front of the store when the suspect arrived and bought 14 sticks of cigarettes.

The suspect reportedly handed a P500 bill to the victim, who then went to a nearby store to look for change.

But as the victim went back inside her store, the suspect followed her and stabbed her.

The wounded Burdado was brought to the Naga City health center for treatment on her non-fatal wounds.

Burdado said she had no idea who stabbed her as she could not remember figuring in an argument with another person.

Caadlawon said they are still gathering more information to identify the culprit.
