MANILA, Philippines — Bayan Muna has filed a petition for review on certiorari at the Supreme Court (SC) asking the high court to order telecommunication companies to lower SMS rate.

The group’s petition also urged the Supreme Court to order a refund of the P7-billion excess in collection on text messaging from 2012 to 2014.

The petition stemmed from the order of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in 2011 of lowering the SMS rate from P1 to P0.80.

Telcos appealed the case in court which the Court of Appeals (CA) upheld in June 2006.

Bayan Muna urged the SC to revise the said CA’s decision and order the telcos to pay fine for not complying with the NTC’s order. –UNTV News and Rescue
