Scarlett Johansson: My dogs are humble

Scarlett Johansson has joked she likes to keep her pets “humble”.

The actress is a proud mom to two dogs, Chihuahua Maggie and dachshund-Chihuahua mix Pancake.

Despite being a huge success in Hollywood, the 28-year-old quipped that she makes sure her pooches stay grounded.

“[Are they pampered?] No more than anyone else’s dogs. I like to keep them humble,” she joked to the latest UK edition of Elle.

“You know, one of them was literally a street rat...And now she’s living the life of Riley. I thought about doing a kids’ book about it. Can you imagine? This is a street dog – who knows what her life was like? And here she is, flying to Paris, living this glamorous lifestyle. She’s suddenly this Hollywood dog.”

The blonde beauty knows what it’s like to come from humble beginnings.

Thanks to her lucrative movie career Scarlett no longer has to worry about money, but the starlet makes sure she doesn’t take anything for granted.

“My father barely made enough to get by,” she recalled.

“We moved every year and we finally settled in a housing development for lower-middle-income families. We went to public schools and depended on programs for school transport and lunches, as did most of my friends...I also think living in New York keeps you pretty grounded. I’m not particularly fancy.”
