School athletes from Lapu-Lapu City win football tourney for drug awareness

THE athletes from Benthel Asia School of Technology in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City won the championship game in the 11th Sinulog Football Cup held last January 21 to 22 in Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex in Talisay City, Cebu.

The winning football team, accompanied by their teachers and coach, paid a courtesy call to the office of Colonel Antonietto Cañete, chief of the Regional Community Affairs and Development Division, on Wednesday, January 25, to show their support to the police campaign in war against illegal drugs among the youth, dubbed as Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT).

The team finished first place in the Boys Under 15 category.

The school also got the same achievement in Boys Under 13 category of the football tourney on November 5 and 20 and on December 11, last year.

The sports activity is in line with the Buhay ay Ingatan Droga ay Ayawan (BIDA) program of the Philippine National Police and the Department of Interior and Local Government, which aims to encourage the youth to stay away from drugs.

The PRO 7 praised the students for showing interest in sports activities since they are the most vulnerable to substance abuse.

Cañete said they are very grateful to the students because they already understand the social problems in society, which can be solved if every member of the community works together.

The police official encouraged the schools to create programs to make their children healthy and to keep them away from illegal activities. (AYB, TPT)
