SINGAPORE — Contessa Loh became Singapore's first SEA Games archery gold medallist since 2013, as she claimed the women's individual compound title on Thursday (19 May).

The 27-year-old, who has been a mainstay with the national team for much of the past decade, notched a 144-140 win over Vietnam's Phuong Thao Le in the final to clinch the rare gold medal for Singapore.

It is the city-state's first archery gold since Chan Jing Ru won the women's individual recurve title at the 2013 Games in Naypyidaw, Myanmar. Loh also won Singapore's first medal in the women's compound category since 2005, when Maryanne Gul won bronze.

Besides Loh and Chan, the only other time which Singapore won archery gold was in 1983, when Tan Pek Hoon won two golds in the women's individual 70m and women's overall title.

The women's compound bronze medal also went to a Singaporean, Madeleine Ong, after she defeated Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Hai Chau 146-140 in the play-off.
