Senate OKs FOI bill on 3rd hearing

Voting 17-0, the Senate on Monday approved on third and final reading its version of the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill, a landmark piece of legislation that aims to lift the shroud of secrecy over government transactions and data.

The bill, known as the People's Ownership of Government Information (POGI) under Senate Bill 3208, was approved during the day's Senate session.

No senator objected to its passage.

Last week, the bill hurdled the second reading also without any objection.

Almost exactly three years ago, the Senate also passed the FOI bill on third and final reading.

However, it was not passed in the House of Representatives that same year. — Kimberly Jane Tan/RSJ, GMA News
