MANILA, Philippines – Senator Sonny Angara on Thursday confirmed he has tested positive for novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“I regret to announce that today, March 26, I received my test result and it is positive for COVID-19,” Angara said in a statement.
He said he has been feeling some of the coronavirus symptoms like mild fever, cough, headaches and general weakness.
The lawmaker assured he has not been in contact with the public since he took a test for COVID-19 last March 16.
Angara on March 12 announced he has subjected himself under self-quarantine after a resource person who visited the Senate premises later tested positive for the virus.
“I ask for your prayers that together we are able to pull through this tremendous challenge,” the lawmaker said.
“Let us continue to support all efforts to fight the further spread of the virus. Let us support our frontliners on the streets, in the emergency rooms as they are key to the effort,” he added.
Angara is the third senator to contract the viral disease after Senators Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, and Juan Miguel Zubiri confirmed they have tested positive for COVID-19.
