MANILA, Philippines — Senator Richard Gordon has sponsored at the plenary the proposed postponement of barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections to October 2018.

According to the senator, he is planning to withdraw the controversial provision of giving the President the authority to appoint an officer-in-charge.

“Para matapos na ito to withdraw the right of the president to appoint or the power of the president to appoint those barangay officials that may have a record of drugs so that has now taken out,” said Gordon.

The senator said he will just push for other amendments on the proposal.

Some senators also urged to fast track the abolition of the Road Board.

This was after the Road Board officials failed to attend the budget hearing and only sent a letter saying the Road Board is currently not under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

“Interestingly enough when we got the letter signed by the Road Board executive director it was not signed by Malacañang or anyone from the Office of the Executive Secretary. It appears your honors the Road Board does not want to appear in our hearings for the budget,” said Sen. Migz Zubiri.
