THE Cebu City Government will extend the distribution of the financial assistance to senior citizens to June 15, 2020.
That way, beneficiaries from the city’s 80 barangays can all receive the cash aid worth P3,000.
As of Monday, June 8, acting City Treasurer Jerone Castillo said 90 percent of the 82,000 qualified senior citizens already received their share.
He said that after the June 15 deadline, they will be able to determine who has yet to receive the financial assistance.
In the second week of May, the City Government conducted a house-to-house distribution of cash assistance, but it could not accommodate all barangays, especially those with coronavirus disease 2019 cases.
Meanwhile, Mayor Edgardo Labella said senior citizens who failed to secure their cash assistance can still claim it 10 days after the city’s general community quarantine status is lifted.
Even though some restrictions have been eased since June 1, those 21 years old and below and 60 years old and above are still not allowed to leave their homes as a precautionary measure against Covid-19 infection. (PAC, JKV)
