“DOGS are a man’s best friend” isn’t just a saying for an elderly woman who hacked her neighbor with a bolo in Barangay General Climaco, Toledo City, Cebu on Friday morning, March 13, 2020.
Maria Mae Briones, 22, sustained gashes on her hands after provoking the ire of 62-year-old Editha Tabios.
Staff Sgt. Reno Allego of the Toledo City Police Station said initial investigation showed that Tabios was just passing by Briones’ house before the incident happened.
The elderly woman’s pet dog, though, reportedly began whining because Briones’ child was throwing stones at it.
This infuriated Tabios, which led to a confrontation with Briones.
During the heated argument, Tabios suddenly attacked Briones with a bolo.
Although Briones was able to dodge the swing that was supposed to hit her head, she instead sustained wounds on her hands.
Allego said there had been bad blood between Tabios and the Brioneses even before the hacking incident.
Tabios allegedly held a grudge against the Briones patriarch after the latter left an unfinished project despite taking an advance payment of P1,500.
The incident with her pet dog only enraged Tabios even more, Allego said.
Complaints for attempted homicide will be filed against the suspect on Monday, March 16. / GPL, RTF
