Senior citizens, PWDs in Lapu-Lapu to get aid from City Government

SENIOR citizens and persons with disability (PWDs) in Lapu-Lapu City will receive their year-end cash assistance from the City Government not later than Dec. 15, 2022.

This, after the City Council approved during its regular session on Thursday, Dec. 1, the ordinance authored by Councilor Annabeth Cuizon, granting the year-end cash assistance to qualified beneficiaries.

Senior citizens will receive P4,000 while PWDs will receive P3,000.

Senior citizens must have a valid and original Senior Citizen’s ID issued by the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca) while PWDs must be a holder of an original Person with Disability Identification Card issued by the City Social Welfare and Development Office-Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office.

Both senior citizens and PWDs must also have an active voting record in the city and must have lived there as of Sept. 30.

Relatives of beneficiaries who died after September 30 can claim the assistance at the City Treasurer’s Office subject to the submission of the following: original death certificate, proof of relationship with the deceased (birth certificate and marriage certificate) and the Senior Citizen or PWD ID of the deceased.

The ordinance states that there will be no double availment of the cash assistance. However, a beneficiary who is a senior and a PWD will receive P5,000.

Luis Funtanar, Osca head, told SunStar Cebu they plan to release the cash assistance on Dec. 13 and 14 in the 30 barangays.

Funtanar said about 32,600 senior citizens are expected to receive the cash assistance.

According to data from the PDAO, there are around 7,000 PWDs registered in the city. (MKG)
