SHAABAA All-Stars nips Magis Eagles in SHAABAA All-Star Weekend, execs raise P1.2M for school

The Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) All-Star team toppled the Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, 92-82, in their goodwill game that culminated the 25th SHAABAA All-Star Weekend last Sunday at the Magis Eagles Arena in Mandaue City.

Zach Huang scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in limited minutes for the SHAABAA All-Star squad, while Darylle Tan added 14 points and 13 boards.

It was a competitive yet fruitful event that saw business executives and Ateneo de Cebu alumni participate in a three-point shootout that raised a whopping P1.2 million that will be used to fund infrastructure projects for the school.

“Six of the top business executives of the country who proudly call themselves Ateneo Hearters engaged in a fun and competitive three-point shootout to raise money to build a gym for the school varsity teams of Sacred Heart Ateneo de Cebu. Each agreed to donate P200,000 pesos to raise a total of P1.2M,” said Afshin Ghassemi, the CEO of Core Pacific Money Exchange and this year’s SHAABAA chairman.

The participants of the shootout, which was won by Dave Ting, were Ghassemi, Franco Soberano, Edmond Gaisano, Dave Ting, Joseph Lo and Chase Cokaliong.

In other events, the Family Shootout was won by the Dinsay family, while the Competitive Three-Point Shootout title was claimed by Elddie Cabahug of Batch 2005.

In the Division All-Star Games, Lux Oriens defeated Team Magis, 88-78, in Division C. Fletcher Galvez and Lucky Ecarma did the most damage for Lux Oriens with 22 and 20 points, respectively. Ecarma was named the Division C All-Star MVP as he added 15 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block.

In Division B, Lux Oriens also emerged victorious, beating Team Magis, 82-79. Elddie Cabahug, who was named Division B All-Star MVP, had 16 points. Franco Te added 16 points, nine boards, and six assists.

The Division A All-Star game ended in an 84-all draw.
