New Sharks coach wants team to improve defense

NEWLY installed Cebu Sharks head coach Noynoy Falcasantos is excited to give back to the place that helped him carve out a nice and long career in the PBA.

Tapped to helped steer the Sharks back into playoff contention after a dismal 4-7 (win-loss) start to the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Season, Falcasantos first expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to give back to Cebu.

“First of all, I would like to give thanks to the Lord and to the management of IPI Cebu for giving me this chance to help my former team,” said Falcasantos, who was a hard-nosed forward who played for Sta. Lucia, Talk ‘N Text, and Ginebra in his 11 years in the PBA.

A native of Zamboanga, Falcasantos eventually made his way to Cebu Central Colleges and started to make a name for himself.

“I’m happy that I was able to come back to Cebu where I started my career in basketball,” said Falcasantos. “I look forward to sharing my coaching knowledge and whatever lessons I was taught by my mentors, especially coach Derrick Pumaren, to the players.”

A fierce and defensive-minded competitor back in the day, Falcasantos is hoping to share his mindset with the Sharks in the hope of improving their defense.

“I definitely want them to improve on defense,” said Falcasantos. (JNP)
