Sherilin ends MCBL heartbreak

SEVERAL seasons of heartbreak finally ended in emphatic victory for the Sherilin Red Arowanas as they defeated the Angel Mary Pawnshop, 103-93, in the finals of the Metro Cebu Basketball League Season 5 Rad Teamwear Cup at the City Sports Club-Cebu on Sunday night, March 1, 2020.

Showing their exceptional depth and skill, the Red Arowanas of businessman and sportsman Richard Mercado finally overcame several seasons of crushing playoff losses to claim the victory and hoist the MCBL trophy.

Versatile big man John “The Flying V” Velasco spearheaded Sherilin’s attack with 23 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals and was named as the finals MVP.

High-flying guard Albert Ardiente had 18 points and six rebounds while big man Junrie Hoybia pulled off a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

High-scoring guard Rex Tuazon was held down to just 18 points on 5-of-15 shooting. Angel Mary’s three-point shooting deserted them in this game as they made just four of their 18 attempts.

The third-place trophy was won by Lite Shipping, which defeated the Hoopsters, 101-94. Jack Echavarria led Lite Shipping with 28 points and four assists. (JNP)
