THE Sibonga Pillars shocked the reigning champions Talisay City Aquastars, 97-94, in the Gullas Cup 2020 basketball tournament in San Fernando on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020.
Wendell Cadampog stood tall for the Pillars as he scored 26 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for Sibonga. He also anchored his team’s defense, protecting the shaded lane with aplomb and racking up three blocks.
Ehman Suarez also had a stellar ballgame for Sibonga with 24 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block while John Sonsona added 11 points.
Keaton Taburnal scored 24 points to lead Talisay City, which dropped to an even 1-1 record after Saturday’s ballgames.
In the second game, the San Fernando Spartans protected homecourt as they edged the Naga Electrifiers, 77-75. Five different players scored in double figures for San Fernando led by the 16 points and six assists of Ronald Geraldino.
Mark Chan and Ivar Cano added 14 points each, Keith Gulle had 13 while Jun Pasilan finished with 11 for San Fernando.
The loss spoiled the 27-point showing of Naga’s Charls Omambac. (JNP)
