Sinulog 2021 to push through sans the crowd

ORGANIZERS of the 2021 Sinulog Festival are contemplating holding an "online celebration" as a way to prevent Covid-19 transmission in Cebu City, said Jojo Labella, Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) executive director.

Labella said on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, that the usual ritual and street dancing will still be present during the virtual celebration of the Sinulog 2021, just without the crowd.

Vice Mayor Michael Rama, who is tasked by Mayor Labella to lead the organization of Sinulog 2021, said another change they will implement in next year's festival is limit the number of dancers per contingent to 50 only and prohibit the use of backdrops and rolling props during the performance.

Local contingents will still be able to perform live during the ritual and street dancing, while out-of-town performers will have to pre-record their performances.

Usual activities during the Sinulog such, as the Sinulog Idol, Balik Cebu, Sinulog Photography Contest, Festival Queen pageant, among others, will still push through./PAC
