THE Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) and the Cebu City Government announced that the Sinulog 2022 will push through, but there will no longer be street dancing and other activities that were usually part of the celebration in pre-pandemic times.

Joy Pesquera, chairman of the SFI executive committee, said as per tradition, the nine-day novena will start on Jan. 7 in honor of the Sto. Niño.

After a mass that will be held at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño, the SFI and the City Government will stage an exhibit of different images taken from the beginning of the Sinulog in the 1980s until 2021 at Fort San Pedro in Plaza Independencia on Jan. 12.

Malls will also hold their own exhibits, as was done in previous years, Pesquera said.

On Jan. 16, the SFI and the City Hall will have a video presentation of previous winners of the Sinulog dance showdown.

They will also hold a telethon to raise funds to help distressed individuals who usually attended the Sinulog every year before the pandemic.

Mayor Michael Rama, overall chairman of the SFI, said there will be no other programs to be held and no contingents from other places will participate in the Sinulog 2022. (PAC / CCP)
