THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will implement this year the construction of the P1.3 billion series of skyways and tunnels traversing Gorordo Avenue to SM City Cebu.
Cebu City North District Rep. Raul del Mar said the project is being funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2020.
Del Mar said he will meet with DPWH officials to discuss some additional improvements, but the project will already proceed with the bidding of the civil works on the existing design.
Additional improvements approved by the DPWH will be funded by the department’s budget or the next year’s budget.
The P1.3 billion project will be a series of skyways and tunnels from Gorordo Avenue to Salinas Drive crossing Archbishop Reyes Avenue/Gov. Cuenco Avenue, from J. Luna Avenue crossing Cardinal Rosales Avenue/F. Cahabug Street, J. Luna crossing M.J. Cuenco Avenue and J. Luna Avenue crossing A. Soriano Ave. to J. Luna Avenue.
The Gorordo Skywalk and/or Tunnel project will be completed by 2021, del Mar said.
Aside from the Gorordo Skyway project, the F. Sotto Drive to Talamban and the Cardinal Rosales Avenue to H. Cortes St. Skyway and/or Tunnel projects are also set to be implemented.
Del Mar said P43.1 million was already initially released for the detailed engineering of the F. Sotto to Talamban junction stretch.
All three projects are estimated to cost P4 billion to P5 billion.
Meanwhile, Cebu City Councilor Jerry Guardo is looking for funds to build a six-kilometer access road from Barangay Pardo to Barangay Toong in southern Cebu City and a four-kilometer road from Barangay Pamutan to Talisay City.
Guardo said once the documentation process is done, the feasibility study and detailed engineering design will be done next for the budget identification later.
He said the road projects will be implemented simultaneously starting in 2021 through the DPWH.
Through these access roads, residents from the mountain barangays can easily go downtown with shorter travel time, he said. (MVG, JJL)
