Soldiers hunting down the kidnappers of Mayor Gemma Adana of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay have seized three unregistered boats in Alicia town that may have been used by the perpetrators.
Armed Forces spokesman Brig. Gen. Joselito Kakilala said authorities are verifying the ownership of the three boats.
“The troops and police in the area were verifying the information regarding the presence of such unregistered boats and if they were used in the transport of the (kidnapped) mayor,” he said.
“But usually, this type of boat is used in unscrupulous activities. Our military forces and the (Philippine National Police) in the area would not leave any stone unturned to any info that would lead to the whereabouts and rescue of Mayor Adana.”
Kakilala said troops from the Army’s 44th Battalion and the Alicia police found the three boats in Sitio Tarla-Tarla in Barangay Tampalan at around 3 p.m. during an operation to rescue Adana.
“However, there were claimants of said boats, but (they have) no papers of registration,” he said.
Six unidentified masked men wielding automatic rifles seized Adana from her house in Barangay Taytay Manubo last April 6.
She and her family were having dinner when the armed men barged in and seized Adana, according to police reports.
The kidnappers reportedly dragged Adana into a motorized boat before heading towards the coastal barangay of Mamagon in the same town. – Alexis Romero
